Adapting to climate change in Peru

The Adaptation to Climate Change Programme is a collaborative initiative between the Ministry of Environment, Government of Peru and the Swiss Agency of Development and Cooperation (SDC), facilitated by a consortium of three organizations, among those HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation. The programme works at national, sub national and local levels. At the national level it supports the country's efforts in international climate negotiations and in developing a national framework for climate change adaptation. At the sub national level it works with the regional governments of Cusco and Apurimac helping them with strategies to mainstream adaptation to climate change in their planning and public investments. Several participatory as well as research studies have provided the information base for practical actions at the field level. At the field level the project works with households and communities on a range of practical measures that help people deal with existing and anticipated changes in climate patterns.
